Who We Are

 We opened our doors on July 1,1974, as a small shop dealing in furniture, brick-a-back and lighting.

 Our eleven-foot-high-ceilings were perfect for hanging a great assortment of antique lighting.

 During the 1970’s we found ourselves drawn to art deco.

We bought complete fixtures as well as incomplete ones, single deco insert shades, including assortments of them whenever available.

By the early 1980’s we found ourselves with growing numbers of shades without fixtures and fixtures without shades!

Match-ups were few and far between. We wondered if we’d lost our minds.

However, every “match-up" was a Cinderella story.  A fixture missing just one shade was worth only one-third of a complete one.

As our inventory grew, match-ups between fixtures and shades, shades and fixtures, shades and sconce backs, etc., became more frequent.

By the mid 1980’s, anyone looking for a missing insert shade would be sent to Uplift by nearly any friendly helpful antique dealer in New York City.

The prices on inset deco chandeliers have risen about 20 - 25% in the past year alone; within the last 5 years they have doubled!

For several years we have maintained the lowest possible prices.

Our pickers brag about the wholesale prices they receive in California and on the West Coast.

Many customers report prices twice ours on the West Coast.
